Frequently asked questions
What is CapsulePad?
CapsulePad is a native sticky-notes app for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. On the Mac, a thin pill of colored notes docks to the edge of your screen and fans out into labeled tabs when your pointer gets close — click one to open that note full-size. There's no Dock icon and no menu bar icon; the dock's own buttons and a few global shortcuts are the only way in.
Where can I download it?
CapsulePad 1.0 is available now on the Mac and iOS App Store.
Does it require an account?
No. There's nothing to sign up for. Install it, and it's ready — no login, ever.
How does the edge dock work?
CapsulePad sits as a thin collapsed pill against your Mac screen's left or right edge, with one short colored dash per note — no Dock icon, no menu bar icon anywhere. Move your pointer close and the one nearest note fans out into a labeled tab you can click to open. Prefer the keyboard? ⌥⌘A opens the full notes list instead.
Can I use it entirely with the keyboard?
Mostly, yes. ⌥⌘N creates a new note, ⌥⌘A opens the combined Notes & Settings window, and ⌥⌘L archives whichever note window is frontmost — all through the classic Carbon Hot Key API, so CapsulePad never needs Accessibility or Input Monitoring permission. Quit lives inside Settings rather than a menu bar dropdown, reachable the same way.
Do my notes sync across my devices?
Yes, if you turn on "Sync with iCloud" in Settings — CapsulePad uses Apple's CloudKit, in your own private iCloud database, to push changes to your other Macs, iPhones, and iPads in seconds rather than minutes. Toggling the setting takes effect the next time you launch the app.
Can I lock a note?
Yes. Any note can be locked behind Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode — the body is genuinely encrypted, not just hidden by the UI, and CapsulePad asks again every time you open it rather than keeping it unlocked for the rest of your session. The title stays visible so you can still tell notes apart.
Can I get my notes out of CapsulePad?
Yes. Export everything as Markdown, plain text, or a full-fidelity CapsulePad archive file you can import back in later — on either platform, through the system's own file picker. Re-importing an archive skips notes you already have rather than duplicating them.
Is there an iPhone or iPad version?
Yes. CapsulePad has a Universal companion app for iPhone and iPad that shares every note with the Mac app via iCloud. It swaps the Mac's edge dock for a native list — tap a note to open the same editor you'd use on the Mac.
Is my data private?
Yes. CapsulePad has no server, no account, and no analytics. Your notes stay on your devices, and sync only through your own private iCloud account if you enable it. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
What does it require?
A Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, or an iPhone/iPad running iOS/iPadOS 17 or later. The Liquid Glass styling activates on macOS/iOS 26, with material fallbacks below that.
